Michael’s New York Autumn Menu Tasting: Course 4

Time for some main dishes, having happily eaten our way through the fall appetizers, salads, and pastas—and finding them all absolutely delicious and perfectly autumnal. Yes, we were feeling, well, fuller by this time. But, still, we were excited to get into the main attractions, starting with seafood.

Seared Maine Day Boat Scallops, Orzo, Pancetta, Celery Root Remoulade, Spaghetti Squash.

The orzo upon which these perfectly crusted scallops rests is so flavorful and creamy. And, as Michael McCarty himself confirmed, the scallops themselves are “perfectly cooked.” We loved the way the seafood and rice-shaped pasta were complemented by the tangy remoulade. These are definitely scallops done right.

Maine Lobster, Gnocchi, Brussels Sprouts, Sauce Americaine.

A classic and exquisite lobster main course with its refined Sauce Americaine, this dish finds its way frequently onto the Michael’s New York menu. Of course, chef Kyung Up Lim and his kitchen brigade add their own distinctive autumnal touches, including a scattering of beautiful Brussels sprout leaves and nuggets of the most heavenly home-made gnocchi.

Skate Wing, Seafood Salad, Celery, Leeks, Bouillabaisse.

This impressive, beautifully crusted skate wing comes with a gorgeous salad of fresh seafood on top. Michael couldn’t get enough of the salad, and was amazed by the beautiful harmony of ingredients—as were his companions at the tasting table!
