November’s Market Meet-Up at Michael’s Santa Monica: Parsnip!

Mild, flavorful, and oh so autumnal!



Michael McCarty Introduces the Season’s Best Each Month
With a Tasting, Demonstration, and Farmers’ Market Tour

WHO: Owner Michael McCarty and his staff elevate local produce, seafood, poultry, and meats to new heights in an enchanted setting—complete with an incomparable wine list and an outstandingly curated art collection—at Michael’s Restaurant, the legendary home of fresh, seasonal, market-to-table California cuisine, renowned for featuring on its menus only the finest produce that Southern California’s farmers have to offer.

WHAT: Michael’s Market Meet-Ups are monthly events featuring a seasonal ingredient of the month. At each event, attendees will meet up with Michael McCarty and executive chef Mikey Stern at Michael’s Restaurant, just off Santa Monica’s Third Street Promenade. After cappuccinos and house-made cinnamon buns at 8:30 a.m., attendees will join Michael and Mikey on a personal tour of the renowned local farmers’ market. They will meet the growers, discuss other uses for the  ingredient of the month, and learn how to select the best of that season’s bounty. After the market tour, the group will walk back to Michael’s and sit down for a tasting of delicious, innovative recipes featuring the star ingredient—as well as sips of wine from the Michael’s list.

November’s ingredient is parsnips from Weiser Farms. Mild, ivory-colored roots, parsnips range in flavor from earthy to sweet. Michael and Mikey will prepare:

  • Parsnip Tortellini with Seared Nantucket Bay Scallops and Banyuls Gastrique
  • Braised Short Ribs with Parsnip-Fuji Apple Puree and Glazed Baby Carrots

The light cinnamon-roll breakfast, farmers’ market tour, and tasting is priced at $60 per person and includes a personalized, signed copy of Michael McCarty’s acclaimed latest book, Welcome to Michael’s: Great Food, Great People, Great Party!
