DineLA Restaurant Week Kick-Off Party!

September 27, 2010

To celebrate the upcoming DineLA Restaurant Week (actually two weeks this year, October 3-8 and 10-15!), Michael McCarty gathered with a bunch of LA’s finest chefs and restaurateurs and our city’s mayor (and major food-and-wine lover) Antonio Villaraigosa for a little friendly competition. The “quickfire” challenge, as it was called, included Mark Peel of Campanile, David LeFevre of The Water Grill, and Ben Ford of Ford’s Filling Station, who had to pick from a table of fresh produce and whip up a quick dish for the judges in only 15 minutes, which included the mayor and our own Big Mike.

After the competitors had spent 20 or 30 minutes behind the open-kitchen stove, Michael and the other judges named Mark Peel the winner for his guinea hen dish. In the words of Michael, “The simplicity of that dish really embodied California. I’m pretty sure Peel stuffed the guinea hen with matsutake mushrooms.” Hmm…. We’ll have to find out more about that!

And it’s not over yet! There’ll be two more rounds of competition, and we’ll keep you posted along the way. And we’ll be offering an awesome prix-fixe menu during both segments of October’s restaurant week that will make your mouth water. So make a reservation—or two—right now through Open Table or by phoning us directly at 310-451-0843.
