Cinco de Mayo Dessert on Memorial Day

May 31, 2010

Looks fresh and zesty, doesn't it?

We know it’s overdue, but we couldn’t resist sharing this fabulous Cinco de Mayo dessert special pastry chef Amanda Moreno dreamed up for the popular Mexican holiday. It’s fresh, tart, and super zesty, just like a Cinco de Mayo celebration.

Amanda started with a few perfect scoops of fresh, ripe, juicy mango ice cream made creamy-rich (and green) with the addition of avocado (instead of the usual egg yolks), and then added a spicy, tart and icy chili lime granita. Fresh galia melon added the perfect succulent hit of natural sweetness. And she couldn’t resist sweet chips as a garnish, made with sugar and flavored with ginger and pepitas (shelled pumpkin seeds).  She finished each cup of the dessert with a delicate slice of candied lime.

And there you have it: Amanda’s creativity in the kitchen, and its most fabulous results!  Happy Memorial Day!
