Meet Mike Nicol, GM of Michael’s Santa Monica

In 1997, Mike Nicol first met Michael McCarty. Michael offered Mike a job as sommelier at Michael’s New York and then quickly promoted him to General Manager and Wine Director of the Manhattan restaurant.

After briefly returning home to Texas in 2001, Mike and his wife Marieke moved to California in 2003. In early 2004, he met up again with Michael—and the rest, as they say, is history. Sharing many of the same passions as Michael McCarty, including food, wine, and art, Mike aims to contribute that passion along with knowledge and integrity—and a warm, friendly personality—to this award-winning restaurant, and to help be part of what has made Michael’s so special for more than three decades.

As Mike himself says, “Working with Michael has exposed me to many great things. But the most important of all things are the people. Michael’s brings in the best of the best. Best people, best food, best art, best wine, and best party. I knew Michael’s would be a good place for me when I first saw a book of our matches and on the side it read, ‘GREAT PARTY.’ How can you go wrong with this kind of endorsement?
